Munich: Day 1

There’s something about Munich, I don’t know, maybe the beer, that makes me feel at home.  People everywhere should love beer this much.  I’ve barely been in Munich 24 hours and I feel as though I could spend a lot of time here and feel at home.  To start the day we went to Dachau.  It was the first and only concentration camp to be open during the entire Nazi regime.  Talk about sobering.  It’s impossible to imagine or understand the absolute horrors that took place on that hollowed ground.

It was a beautiful day with a blue sky and the sun shining.  It was so peaceful and serene at the site and yet there was something not right.  It was truly a humbling experience.  Everybody should experience something like it.  I can’t even imagine what Auschiwtz is like.  I’ll have more on the experience in a separate post.

We finished the day with a free bike tour of Munich, passing all the important sites and of course stopping at a beer garten for refreshment and nourishment half way through.  Please enjoy the photos and check back later for post about Dachau.
